Google defines social networking as follows:

the use of dedicated websites and applications to interact with other users, or to find people with similar interests to one’s own.

Developers Conference however allows many of the geeks on island to spend three days of pure networking. Some of us happen to meet up only once a year during this event. It’s cool & fun.

In fact, to my surprise I met a this fellow developer from France who is currently in Mauritius and he happens to read my blog since two years now. His name is Jean Elchinger. We exchanged a couple of ideas about open systems, email privacy & communication etc.

In the lounge I met Avish who announced me that he’s joining OceanDBA. That was nice to hear. I’m happy for the fellow. I’ve met Avish in the previous DevCons and he’s always been enthusiastic about his ideas and projects. In fact, I’m happy that he’ll soon be working with folks like Ronny & Joffrey.

Yovan from the Mauritius Makers Community was sitting right there giving some tips about sensors and Arduino.

Later during the day I bumped into more of the usual suspects; Yog and Nayar.

Nayar has a presentation titled « Centralised Logging for Server Farms: from Collection to Analytics (Big Data) » on Saturday. I’m really looking forward to that.

So, yes, this is real social networking, where you meet, you interact, you share knowledge & ideas with great people, you make contacts and some even start working on projects together or in a team.
