Imelda – Cyclone warning class II

mauritius cyclone weather met-office

It’s been quite some time since we had the visit of one these tropical cyclones. Although we’ve been washed by torrential rains the last few days we haven’t actually had the visit of tropical cyclones. The last memory of a fierce one that I have is of Hollanda which came in 1994.

Well … memories aside, Mauritius is at the moment on alert with a cyclone warning class II. Tropical cyclone Imelda was situated at 360 Km north-north-east of Mauritius with longitude 59.3ºE and latitude 17.2ºS this morning at 10h00.

Imelda is moving southwards at a speed of 4 km/h. It remains therefore a potential threat to Mauritius. The next bulletin will be issued by the Meteorological centre at 17h00.
