Cyber Security Conference by CERT-MU

November 30, 2015

Computer Security Day was celebrated around the world today.

CERT-MU, the Computer Emergency Response Team of Mauritius, a division of the National Computer Board organized a conference on this occasion.

The National Computer Board operates under the aegis of the Ministry of Technology, Communication and Innovation. The irony of this situation is that this conference aims to provide an insight into the privacy and security issues surrounding electronically stored information.

I have reported security incidents to CERT-MU in the past and not later than last week I emailed Dr Kaleem Usmani, the Assistant Manager of CERT-MU, asking his opinion on what the law says about unsolicited emails. Till now I haven’t received any reply.

On the Government Portal’s news section, it is mentioned about the conference that local and foreign speakers from the IT industry are discussing current challenges and future opportunities in cyber-security. How real these discussions are, I do not know, I cannot say. I was not invited to this conference.

My little experience says that they are not even a tiny bit of concerned regarding privacy of citizens. Examples? Well, just search for privacy on legacy.hacklog.in :) You will get many.
