Ask your ID Card without compromising your fingerprints
July 21, 2014
Fellow Mauritians,
It looks like several groups campaigning against the biometric identity card have gained momentum recently. This is a positive thing. In-line with the protest, this Wednesday 23rd July 2014, folks from Lalit are going to the ID Conversion Centre at Registrar General, Emmanuel Anquetil Building, Sir S. Ramgoolam Street, Port-Louis.
The is a peaceful action whereby people will queue to register for a new identity card without giving their fingerprints as the law states that biometric data can be collected only after proper consent is obtained from the person. As far as I know, even those who have got their new ID haven’t specifically given such a consent.
I need to remind you folks that currently three court cases are lodged against the Government in the context of MNIC (Mauritius National Identity Card).
